What can you expect after taking?
You would feel more energised throughout the day. Expect healthy resting heart rate (number of beats per minute when you are sitting or lying down) as soon as one week after consumption. It is best to measure your resting heart rate in the morning before getting out of bed. If you prefer to take your resting heart rate during the day, you should sit without doing any activity for about 10 minutes before taking your heart rate.

A normal resting heart rate for adults ranges between 60 and 100 beats per minute (bpm). Generally, a lower heart rate at rest implies that the heart muscle is in a better condition and it pumps more blood to the whole body with each beat.
A resting heart rate lower than 60 bpm does not necessarily mean you have a medical problem.

Active people or athletes might have a normal resting heart rate closer to 40 bpm. This is because their heart muscles do not need to work as hard to maintain a steady beat.

However, a resting heart rate less than 60 bpm could also be the result of taking certain medications, especially medications to manage blood pressure. If coupled with symptoms such as dizziness, a low heart rate may signal a problem and needs further investigation.

Q. How does CardioREGAIN differ from other CoQ10 or heart formula?
A. CardioREGAIN is an advanced formula of widely researched heart micronutrient brands, boosted by a smart delivery system for superior utilisation and efficacy. Kaneka QH® Ubiquinol is the most body-ready form of CoQ10 that provides efficient replenishment to maximise cellular energy production (to strengthen heart muscle) and antioxidant protection. Ubiquinol is up to 8 times more bioavailable than conventional CoQ10 and the proprietary Liposomal Encapsulation technology further enhanced its absorption by the body cells by up to 25 times. The addition of Astaxanthin, Pine Bark Extract and Krill Oil works in synergy to support vascular elasticity and healthy heart & blood pressure. By supporting optimal mitochondrial (energy generator in the cell) health, it also generates energy for vital body organs.

Q. How does Ubiquinol differ from conventional CoQ10?
A. Ubiquinol is the reduced form of CoQ10. This pre-converted, advanced form of CoQ10 is ready for use by the body for cellular energy production. On the other hand, conventional CoQ10, also known as Ubiquinone is the oxidised form of CoQ10.The body must convert it into Ubiquinol before it is able to assist in energy production. This conversion process becomes less efficient as one approaches the age of 30. Hence, supplemental Ubiquinol which is more bioavailable and efficacious is a better CoQ10 option for those above 30 years old and above. Additionally, Ubiquinol also acts as an antioxidant in the body by neutralising free radicals and protecting cells from oxidative damage, but conventional CoQ10 does not. Ubiquinol is one of the few lipid-soluble antioxidants that is effective in the fatty parts of the body such as cell membranes and low density lipoprotein (LDL) cholesterol. It also protects mitochondrion against damage by free radicals. Ubiquinol is able to regenerate other antioxidant molecules such as vitamins E and C to fight oxidation in the body.

Q. Why is there a need to take Ubiquinol CoQ10?
A. Ubiquinol CoQ10 is found in every cell of the body including the heart and brain. It is produced naturally in the body as conventional CoQ10 (Ubiquinone) and converted to Ubiquinol. The Ubiquinol form of CoQ10 is essential for production of cellular energy and protection against oxidative stress. Energy demanding organs such as heart, lungs, kidneys and brain require Ubiquinol to function optimally. Factors such as ageing, medications (cholesterol-lowering statins) and oxidative stress cause the body’s conversion capability to decline, resulting in reduced production of cellular energy to ‘drive’ the body’s vital organs. Supplementation of dietary Ubiquinol can help to replenish the body’s CoQ10 to assist in energy production for optimal functioning. Ubiquinol made by Kaneka is bioidentical to the Ubiquinol made naturally in the body. It works at the cellular level, transferring electrons to generate cellular energy known as ATP to power organs such as the heart, brain and other major organs.

Q. What are the effects of low CoQ10 levels in body?
A. As CoQ10 is vital to energy production in the body, low levels of CoQ10 can result in extreme physical fatigue, e.g. feeling tired upon waking or exhausted after a few minutes of walking. Deficiency in CoQ10 can also cause mental fatigue including memory lapses, difficulty concentrating, lack of enthusiasm and mild to moderate depression. People who are deficient in CoQ10 often experience frequent headaches, migraines, muscle cramps or weakened immunity.

Q. Can I obtain Ubiquinol CoQ10 from the foods I eat?
Yes, you can. Although ubiquinol can be obtained through consumption of oily fish, organ meats or whole grains, it is difficult to acquire high amounts without overeating these foods in excess. Morever, naturally occurring ubiquinol from foods such as chicken is converted back to Ubiquinone (oxidised) form of CoQ10 when cooked, thus making it difficult for your body to absorb and utilise it. The following are examples of foods rich in ubiquinol and the amounts you would need to ingest to obtain the recommended daily dose of 100 mg; compared to taking only one capsule of CardioREGAIN which contains 100mg Kaneka QH Ubiquinol.

Q. What results can I expect to see from taking CardioREGAIN?
A. You will feel more energised throughout the day. Ubiquinol CoQ10 in CardioREGAIN also helps improve heart rate and respiratory rate. Thus, you may expect healthy heart rate (the number of beats per minute) as early as one week after consumption. A lower heart rate indicates that the heart muscle is in a better condition and is able to pump more blood to whole body with each beat. In addition, your respiratory rate (the number of breaths per minute) may improve as well.

Q. Will CardioREGAIN cause a sudden burst of energy?
A. Although Ubiquinol CoQ10 is responsible for the body’s cellular energy production, its effect is unlike the energy spike one gets from taking caffeine or a stimulant. The supplemental Ubiquinol in CardioREGAIN helps to replenish CoQ10 levels in the body to boost cellular energy for the heart, brain, lungs and other vital organs to function optimally. However, if you have difficulty sleeping, it is best to take CardioREGAIN in the morning.

Q. Are there any side effects associated with CardioREGAIN?
A. CardioREGAIN is safe and well-tolerated by the human body. In extremely rare cases, nausea, loss of appetite, upset stomach, diarrhoea or allergic reactions may occur. If you notice any of these effects, please seek immediate medical attention.

Q. Can I take CardioREGAIN if I’m taking cholesterol-lowering medicines?
A. Yes. CardioREGAIN is safe and well-tolerated by human beings. For people who are taking cholesterol-lowering statin drugs (which works by supressing an enzyme in the liver that makes cholesterol and CoQ10), CardioREGAIN helps replenish the body’s supply of CoQ10 to boost cellular energy production. As Ubiquinol CoQ10 is more absorbable by the cells than conventional CoQ10, it is the preferred form of CoQ10 for cholesterol-lowering statin users. If you are taking any form of medication, do keep a 2-hour gap between CardioREGAIN and medicine to ensure that the efficacy of CardioREGAIN is not compromised.

Q. Does CardioREGAIN require a prescription?
A. No. CardioREGAIN is a dietary supplement. It is not a medicine and hence, no prescription is required.

I have been experiencing fast heartbeat since I turned 50. Sometimes, the sensation of “flopping” in the chest was very intense and I had difficulty breathing. After taking CardioREGAIN, I noticed my heart rate decreased to normal levels just within an hour of intake. This is unbelievable! I checked my heart rate several times after taking CardioREGAIN and found that the effects were consistent. Now, I rarely experience shortness of breath and I can walk up two or three flight of stairs without panting. I am proud to say that “I have a younger heart now!”.

“On both days, I took CardioREGAIN at around 11am. My heart rate decreased from 80+ to 72bpm within an hour. For my age, 72 bpm is considered a normal heart rate. Thumbs up!”

1. Support good heart health
Study 1: Oxidative stress has been shown as a contributing factor to heart failure, a condition in which the heart cannot keep up with its workload. Ubiquinol CoQ10 supplementation (150mg/day for 14
days) to healthy subjects help reduce oxidative stress, thereby decreasing their risks of heart disease.

2. Support healthy blood pressure and glucose levels
People with diabetes, particularly type 2 diabetes are more likely to have increased risk of developing heart disease, stroke and high blood pressure. Supplementation of 100mg CoQ10 twice daily (200mg/day for 12 weeks) helps decrease blood pressure and glucose levels in type 2 diabetic subjects.

3. Support healthy blood lipid levels
Excessive LDL (bad) cholesterol in blood can lead to fatty deposits building up in the arteries. These fatty deposits can increase the risk of developing coronary heart disease, heart attack and stroke. Supplementation with Ubiquinol (150mg daily for 14 days ) to healthy subjects helps reduce plasma LDL cholesterol levels.

4. Protect against oxidation
Study 1: Free radicals and oxidative stress are reportedly an attributing factor to the development of heart disease conditions, congestive heart failure, coronary artery disease and hypertension. Dietary astaxanthin is shown to significantly lower blood pressure and reduce oxidative stress in hypertensive subjects. These results suggest that astaxanthin can modulate the oxidative condition.

Study 2: Enzogenol is a very powerful antioxidant against free radicals (oxidants) which cause lipids to oxidise and form plaque deposits in the body. In a test, the ability of antioxidants to scavenge free radicals was assessed. Enzogenol showed the highest antioxidant activity compared to vitamin C, catechin and maritime pine bark extract (PBE).

5. Replenish CoQ10 levels depleted from the use of Statin
Cholesterol-lowering statins have been found to reduce the amount of naturally-occurring CoQ10 in the body. Patients with statin-associated myopathy (SAM) - a disease of muscle tissue - were orally administered 20mg CoQ10 (Ubiquinol) daily for 3 months. CoQ10 supplementation significantly increased plasma CoQ10 levels and reduced symptoms of SAM including muscle pain and muscle weakness even with statin therapy.

Other Benefits of CoQ10:

1. Reduces free radical damage
Overproduction of free radicals can cause oxidative damage to parts of cells such as proteins, DNA and cell membranes, which could ultimately leading to ageing and various chronic diseases. As an antioxidant, CoQ10 has been found to protect cells against oxidative damage by directly neutralising free radicals to reduce oxidation.

2. Restores anti-oxidative powers of vitamins C and E
CoQ10 regenerates vitamins C and E by donating electrons that recycle the vitamins. Hence, these vitamins are converted to their reduced and active forms as antioxidants, providing the cells even more protection against free radical damage.

3. Promotes healthy heart and blood pressure
Heart muscle requires high energy to pump blood continuously throughout the circulatory system. Replenishing CoQ10 in the heart improves cellular energy production for better functioning of the heart muscle. CoQ10 is also an antioxidant to the heart muscle which is vulnerable to oxidative damage. Additionally, CoQ10 supplementation helps improve orthostatic hypotension - a form of low blood pressure that happens when standing up from sitting or lying down position. It causes one to feel dizzy, lightheaded and maybe even faint.

4. Supports blood vessel health
CoQ10 maintains healthy blood vessels by reducing oxidation of LDL (bad) cholesterol. When LDL becomes oxidised, it will build up on the inside of blood vessel, this in turn can harden and create blockages in the blood vessels.

5. Regulates blood glucose
CoQ10 may help with blood glucose control. Supplemental CoQ10 is shown to improve long-term glycaemic control (regulation blood glucose levels within normal ranges) in subjects with type 2 diabetes (Eur J Clin Nutr 56(11): 1137-1142 (2002)).

6. Slows down effects of ageing
Natural CoQ10 in body has been reported to decrease with age, which equates to a decline in energy production, leading to organ degeneration. A supplementation of CoQ10 helps slow down the signs of ageing. This includes muscle loss, skin damage and bone and joint injuries.

7. Supports kidney health
A major function of the kidneys is to remove waste products and excess fluid from the body through the urine. Poor kidney function can affect other organs and in some serious cases, they can be fatal. CoQ10 protects kidneys against oxidative stress and nephrotoxic drugs (drugs that can cause kidney damage) and improves kidney dysfunction.

8. Supports liver health
The liver is vital for the detoxification and destruction of substances that are harmful to the body. Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) develops when the liver has difficulty breaking down fats. This causes build-up and inflammation in the liver tissue which can lead to cirrhosis
or scarring and dysfunction of the liver. CoQ10 is shown to mitigate liver inflammation in NAFLD patients. It also supports liver health by reducing toxin-induced liver damage and providing antioxidant protection.

9. Supports brain health
The brain requires very high amount of energy for optimal functioning. CoQ10 assists with energy production and acts as an antioxidant in cell membranes. Thus, it provides the brain with power and helps slow brain deterioration.

10. Protects lungs
Patients with asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) have lower levels of CoQ10 which may contribute to antioxidant imbalance and oxidative stress. Supplementation with CoQ10 is shown to reduce inflammation, as well as diminish their need for steroid medications to treat it (Biofactors 25(1-4): 235-240 (2005)). In addition, improved exercise performance, better tissue oxygenation and heart rate were observed among COPD patients after supplementation of CoQ10 (Clin Investig 71(8 Suppl): S162-166 (1993)).

11. Counteracts adverse effects of cholesterol-lowering statin drugs
Statins are a class of drugs commonly prescribed to help lower cholesterol levels in the blood. Nonetheless, statins also severely deplete the blood CoQ10 levels by half within 30 days (Arch
Neurol 61(6): 889-892 (2004)). Thus, the side effects commonly associated with statins are identical to symptoms of CoQ10 deficiency. This includes headache, fatigue and muscle pain. Supplementation of CoQ10 is found to restore its natural level to the optimum and counteract the side effects of statins.

12. Reduces fatigue and boosts stamina
Physical exercise remarkably depletes muscle CoQ10 levels, leading to fatigue, weakness, aches and pain. A supplementation of CoQ10 rectifies CoQ10 deficiency, eases aches and pain and helps enhance energy and stamina by supplying more energy to the cells.

13. Combats headaches
CoQ10 reduces the severity and frequency of migraine headaches (Cephalalgia 22(2): 137-141 (2002)).

14. Manages symptoms of depression
Depression is accompanied by an induction of oxidative stress. CoQ10 is a powerful antioxidant and it can help combat symptoms of depression and anxiety (Pharmacol Biochem Behav 104: 105-112 (2013)).

15. Boosts immune system
Tissues and cells involved with immune function are highly dependent on the energy level and require sufficient supply of CoQ10 for optimal functioning. CoQ10 supplementation has been shown to have immune-enhancing effects (Clin Immunol 155(2): 209-212 (2014)).

16. Improves CoQ10 levels in semen
CoQ10 supplementation increases CoQ10 levels in semen and sperm cells and is effective in improving sperm quality (Fertil Steril 91(5): 1785-1792 (2009)). CoQ10 supplementation may possibly help with age-related decline in egg quality and quantity (Aging Cell 14(5): 887-895 (2015)).

17. Reduces ringing ears (tinnitus)
Tinnitus may be caused by oxidative damage to the sound sensing nerves inside ears or poor blood circulation to the nerves. A study found that tinnitus sufferers with low initial blood CoQ10 concentration benefited from CoQ10 supplementation, where significant increase in blood CoQ10 level and a reduction in tinnitus symptoms were observed (Otolaryngol Head Neck Surg 136(1): 72-77 (2007)).

18. Helps reverse gum disease
Diseased gum tissue was found to have less CoQ10 than normal gum tissue. CoQ10 supplementation to patients with gum disease resulted in a reduction of inflammation, with faster healing and tissue repair compared to placebo group (J Clin Diagn Res 9(8): ZC26 – ZC28 (2015)).

AstaReal Astaxanthin

AstaReal is natural astaxanthin produced by fresh-water microalgae known as Haematococcus pluvialis. The first indoor production facility was established in Gustavsberg, Sweden, where AstaReal was the first company in the world to commercially produce natural astaxanthin from microalgae in the early 1990s. The AstaReal Group together with their parent company Fuji Chemical Industries Co., Ltd. are world leaders in research-based natural astaxanthin health
products.

Astaxanthin is accumulated in the muscles of krill, salmon, lobster and other pink seafood due to their consumption of the algae.

What drives your heart and vital organs?

Major organs such as your heart, kidney and liver function with the help of mitochondria, the powerhouses of cells for energy production. It is here that biological energy (ATP) is generated for functioning, cell repair and regeneration.

In turn, the mitochrondria is supported by Coenzyme Q10 (CoQ10) which fuels and protects them from oxidative damage and maintains good mitochondrial health. CoQ10 is imperative for the survival of mitochondria, without which the energy produced for trillions of cells will decrease, resulting in dysfunction and onset of diseases.

What is CoQ10?
CoQ10 is a fat-soluble, vitamin-like nutrient that is produced naturally by your body, it is a key element in energy production and antioxidant protection, and delivers nutritional support that encompasses whole-body health.

CoQ10 is present in every cell of the body, with the highest concentrations in organs such as kidneys, lungs, heart and liver which have high energy demands. For energy to be generated and sustained, there must be sufficient quantities of CoQ10. However, the body’s ability to produce CoQ10 begins to decrease around the age of 30 and rapidly decline by 40. By 50, the natural CoQ10 levels may be critically low to support optimal health. Dietary supplement of CoQ10 is highly recommended as one ages.

Factors contributing to CoQ10 depletion
1. Statin drugs - Statins are prescription drugs used to lower cholesterol level and manage heart disease. These drugs have been found to deplete the body of CoQ10.

2. Missing nutrients - Vitamins B2, B6, B12, C, folic acid, niacinamide, pantothenic acid and many trace elements are required to produce CoQ10. Having an unhealthy and imbalanced diet affects nutrient availability and CoQ10 biosynthesis.

3. Oxidative stress - Free radicals generated by pollution, UV rays, toxins and smoking are the causes of ageing and many diseases. When the body has a high level of free radicals, its supply of CoQ10 would be tapped on to neutralise them, thereby increasing the need for more CoQ10.

4. Age - Our bodies’ ability to convert conventional Ubiquinone CoQ10 to active Ubiquinol form decreases as we age.

The energy demand of the heart is among the highest in the body. CoQ10 is most concentrated in the heart, making it especially important for the support of a stronger, healthier and better-functioning heart.

Research showed patients with heart failure have diminished CoQ10 levels in their hearts, and patients with the worst heart disease have the lowest CoQ10 levels. Studies suggested that CoQ10 and Ubiquinol may help promote heart health by delivering multifaceted cardio protection:
✓ Promote and maintain heart energy levels
✓ Protect heart tissues from free radical damage
✓ Reduce oxidation of LDL (bad) cholesterol which is associated with clogged arteries.
✓ Promote healthy and stable heartbeat.
✓ Support healthy blood pressure

CoQ10 has the potential to lower systolic blood pressure by up to 17 mmHg and diastolic blood pressure by up to 10 mmHg in hypertensive patients. It is also known to maintain blood pressure that is within a normal range (J Hum Hypertens 21(4): 297-306 (2007)).
