In this test, male rats aged 11 weeks were orally administered 500 mg/kg MCP-EX Marine Collagen Peptides with molecular weight around 1,000 Daltons and 8.27% hydroxyproline (Hyp) or high molecular collagen with molecular weight around 10,000 Daltons and 12.0% Hyp. MCP-EX Marine Collagen Peptides resulted in greater absorption than high molecular collagen.

Fibroblasts are the cells that produce collagen, which are responsible for the structure, firmness, and elasticity of the skin. In an in vitro study, MCP-EX Marine Collagen Peptides was found to increase fibroblast proliferation in a dose-dependent manner. The effects were equivalent to effects obtained using collagen derived from fish skin.

Promotes wound healing

During wound healing process, inflammatory response stimulates fibroblast migration and proliferation in the wound area, which produces an extracellular matrix including collagen that is required for wound healing. 

In this test, a wound model with a defined wound gap of 0.9 mm was created in vitro to evaluate migratory and proliferation rates of fibroblasts using microscopic imaging. 

Control (collagen without additives), MCP-EX Marine Collagen Peptides with average molecular weight of 1000 Daltons, tri-peptides derived from fish from company A and peptides derived from fish with average molecular weight of 3000 Daltons from company B were used for comparison. Compared to the rest, MCP-EX Marine Collagen Peptides showed the fastest migration to the affected site and the most effective closing of the gap.

After cultured for 30 hours, the migration speed of fibroblasts was compared, and MCP-EX Marine Collagen Peptides showed 4.2 times faster migration speed than control. Among the three peptides, MCP-EX Marine Collagen Peptides showed the fastest migration speed, suggesting the effectiveness of MCP-EX Marine Collagen Peptides in skin repair, including wound, UV damage and others. 

Suppresses collagen and elastin breakdown

Collagenases are enzymes that cleave the peptide bonds in collagen, thereby breaking down collagen which could potentially lead to prolonged skin damage and wrinkle formation.  Meanwhile, elastinase breaks down elastin, which is a protein that contributes elasticity to the connective tissues. 

In this test, the inhibitory rate of collagen and elastin breakdown was compared between MCP-EX Marine Collagen Peptides and dipeptides proline-hydroxyproline (Pro-Hyp) and hydroxyproline-glycine (Hyp-Gly), as well as NNGH (collagenase inhibitor), which acts as a positive control. MCP-EX Marine Collagen Peptides suppressed collagenase and elastase activity, while neither dipeptides showed any collagenase inhibitory activity. These findings suggest the potential protective effects of MCP-EX Marine Collagen Peptides against decreased skin elasticity and wrinkle formation. 

In addition, MCP-EX Marine Collagen Peptides demonstrated inhibitory effects on neutrophil elastase, which is an enzyme that contribute to extracellular matrix damage induced by long-term UV exposure, accelerating wrinkle formation. Meanwhile, dipeptides Pro-Hyp and Gly-Hyp showed low inhibitory effects. These findings suggest the beneficial effects of MCP-EX Marine Collagen Peptides in protecting against wrinkle formation. 

Reduces wrinkles

In this study, 10 women in 20s to 50s were orally administered 5,000 mg MCP-EX Marine Collagen Peptides daily for 8 weeks and the skin condition was monitored before taking, after 4 weeks and 8 weeks of administration. In addition, a questionnaire about their skin conditions was conducted after the test. After taking MCP-EX Marine Collagen Peptides for 8 weeks, all the subjects showed an improvement to the wrinkles. The maximum depth, average depth, maximum width, and number of wrinkles were decreased by 24%, 17%, 12% and 33%, respectively.

In addition, MCP-EX Marine Collagen Peptides help improve the skin texture. Below showed one of the case studies. Before taking MCP-EX Marine Collagen Peptides, the skin texture was impaired in the white parts. However, the skin texture was remarkably improved after 4 and 8 weeks of intake.
