Nutrient-dense foods are packed with full of nutrients such as complex carbohydrates, proteins, vitamins and fibers but with minimum calories. They are beneficial for maintaining good health and will keep you fuller for longer time. For instance, an apple is more nutrient dense than a tin of carbonated sweeten apple juice.
Opposite to “nutrient dense foods” are “empty calories foods”, which refer to food with high sugar, fat and calories but low nutritional value. Examples include most of the convenient foods and fast foods such as soft drinks and pastries. The body stores extra calories as fat. Excessive intake of such food can increase your weight and lead to other health problems.
